September 2012: Along a private beach at Fort
Morgan, Alabama, Hurricane Isaac uncovered this ghostly wreckage of an
old wooden schooner named Rachel. The ship was built during
World War I, but the schooner and her 8-man crew ran aground during a tropical storm in 1923.
Rachel‘s
remains have been uncovered off and on since 1969 during previous
storms. When this ship wrecked, it was supposed to have been loaded with
lumber, but local lore says the prohibition-era ship was also bringing
alcohol from Cuba.
